Job Description

Job Summary FreeWheel is seeking a Junior DevOps / SRE 2 to join the Freewheel OPS team based in Denver, CO or Chicago, IL. As a member of the Global Operation team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of Freewheel systems. Job Description Work closely with engineers and other operation sub‑teams to manage infrastructure, optimize system reliability, automate daily operations, and resolve technical issues that impact upstream/downstream platforms. Qualifications 1-3 years of experience as an SRE, DevOps or Operations Engineer. Programming skills – proficiency in at least one language such as Python, Go, Java, or Scala. Experience with automation tools/frameworks such as Ansible, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, OCI, GCP, Azure) is a plus. Experience with Terraform and IaC principles is a plus. Familiar with monitoring and log management tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or similar). Excellent communication skills for conveying technical information to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Proactive learner eager to grow in operations and governance. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field. Key Responsibilities Design and implement monitoring and alerting systems; participate in on‑call shifts to respond quickly to incidents. Develop and maintain automation tools and scripts for deployment, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery. Analyze and optimize performance of data storage, query performance, and data flows to reduce latency and improve processing speed. Respond to platform failures, troubleshoot, and coordinate cross‑team efforts to resolve issues and ensure high availability. Plan capacity and scaling, forecast requirements, and support Live events. Maintain consistent cloud standards and enforce governance and compliance practices. Document architecture, configurations, and operational procedures; provide training and knowledge sharing. Ensure platforms meet security and compliance requirements. Collaborate with engineering, product, and project management teams to support product design and implementation. General Expectations Understand Operating Principles and apply them to your work.
